Sitting In: Managing COPD in the Fall

Coming out of one of the hottest and driest Augusts ever recorded in the region, many COPD patients are breathing a sigh of relief that the long days of staying indoors to avoid the harsh conditions that aggravate their symptoms are coming to an end.

At the same time, other COPD patients are looking ahead, bracing for fall and the many allergens from weeds that come along with it, triggering their flare-ups. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive disease that causes serious long-term disability and early death. Currently, there is no cure for COPD, which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema, but with the right care, COPD can be managed, enabling patients to live a longer and higher quality life.
